Whether you have clip-in, sewn-in, or tape extensions, here are some tips for taking care of your hair extensions, and prolonging the life of your hair extensions.

#1 – Brush your extensions regularly.

Use a soft-bristled brush to brush your extensions gently, every day. This prevents tangles and matting. Start from the bottom and work your way up, holding the roots to avoid pulling on your natural hair. Always detangle before washing, to give your hair a thorough cleanse, lift away dirt and prevent hair from becoming tangled.

#2 Wash your hair extensions carefully.

It’s important to remember to wash your extensions with a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner every 2-3 days, which is essential for maintaining the health of your hair extensions. #3 Extensions are an investment… protect them!

  • Protect your extensions while sleeping, to prevent tangling and matting while you sleep, tie your hair back in a loose braid or ponytail before bed. A silk or satin pillowcase can also reduce friction and further protect your extensions.
  • If your hair starts to feel frizzy, dry, or dull, coat your hair with a hydrating mask from root to ends, and use it weekly to restore the moisture back to your locks.
  • Avoid using heat styling tools daily, if you must use styling tools, use a heat protectant spray and keep the temperatures low, to avoid hair from discolouring or burning, and maintain the quality of your locks.

#4 Swimming & Holidays

Spring/summer is on the horizon, so don’t forget about your luscious locks even more so in summer, especially if swimming! We recommend that hair extensions aren’t exposed to water for prolonged periods of time

  • Immediately after swimming, rinse your hair in freshwater, to remove the chlorine residue which can cause damage and can cause bonds to become weak.
  • Comb through hair with a proper extension brush. Do not BRUSH the extension hair when wet as this can result in breakages.
  • Style your extensions into a braid.

Just like any beauty routine hair extensions require home maintenance to ensure that they stay healthy and in top condition, and by following these tips, you can keep your extensions looking healthy and beautiful for longer.
